worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
This was supposed to be a top 10 list but i got carried away. This list is about value, not just the worst players. Some of them were actually decent.

Thoughts?

1 dyer
2 ljungberg
3 carroll (the most expensive but at least we got some good moments out of him)
4 benni mccarthy
5 Titi camara
6 yarmolenko (sorry but he will be 30 next season and all his re-sale value gone, plus high wages)
7 matt jarvis
8 maiga
9 alou diarra
10 pablo barrera
11 Hutchison (second time we signed him)
12 savio
13 Boa morte
14 Quashie
15 herita llunga (terrible after we signed him permanently)
16 Radiciuou
17 enner valencia
18 diamanti (lost about £6m on him)
19 Faubert
20 Gary Charles
21 Dumitrescu
22 dale gordon

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!

and obviously we have to account for inflation and the market at the time

Ridiculous about Yarmolenko. You're a proper dick, no doubts.

Valencia wasn't that bad

Maiga shouldn't be counted in this list for his Carling Cup header against Spurs alone.

Rossal 1:42 Tue Nov 6
Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
Hugill has to be on there

Gary Darkness 1:43 Tue Nov 6
Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
We will pay about £30m for Yarmolenko and we will not get much more out of him now. Anyone who can't see that does not know the history of this club, sorry.

Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
Hugill we could yet get our money back on, give or take 2 or 3 mill.

Gary

you are talking about a player who will be two years into a 4 year contract when he is thirty, so obviously his resale value is going to drop. not because he has turned 30, you absolute moron. players resale value doesn't automatically drop once they relinquish a 2 at the start of their age, this isn't championship manager '93.

I agree with Manip.
Maiga had some decent moments in addition to the goal against Spurs. I don't recall him ever being injured either, unlike the other sicknotes mentioned.

Several spring to mind especially Peter Eustace and Ted McDougal.

In recent years the stand out stinking buy for me has been Matt Jarvis by a country mile

Takashi Miike 1:53 Tue Nov 6
Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
Dyer
Mean
Quashie
Carroll
Llunjberg

there's loads more but those come to mind immediately

Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
John Radford Scoring about 1 in 3 games for arsenal and got injured , guess who bought him, we did for 80,000 a lot of money then, played 28 games for us and didn't score and went to Blackburn on free

Useless Eustace to add to the list bought to reolace Martin Peters IIRC ?

Some of the players on that list were perfectly OK or at worst a little disappointing.

Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
carroll back after the international break according to physioroom...it may have meant he will break his back

jack wheelchair also back on the 24th...

boogers was a class act as was robbie keane and benny mac

Trevor B 2:23 Tue Nov 6
Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
I'd also say the likes of Rigobert Song, Joey Beauchamp, Razvan Rat, Marco Boogers, Jose Fonte all deserve to be on there for the return we got from them.

Re: worst ever west ham signings pound for pound
Pound for lb, McCarthy was a steal

A lot of those on there don’t deserve to be - diamanti for example. Even Valencia we made money back on him.

Though I would say joe hart and Zaza - cost a fortune in loan fees and wages and were both utter toilet.

Alex Bunbury, the Canadian who Bonds signed in 1993. He was just as bad as the ringer who Graeme Souness was conned into signing for Southampton.
